DASHAIN (September/October)

Dashai is one of the most auspicious and popular festivals of Nepal. This festival is also known as Victory Day over untrue, darkness and bad karma. In ancient times Hindu's god Ram defeated Ramayana, whose karma was very bad although he was a very powerful king. (This is a 10 day celebration; the government office will remain closed at that time).

SITA VIVAHA PANCHAMI - February

The Hindu God Ram's wedding day to Sita. This ideal conjugal has impressed the people so much in this region that people worship this particular date to their memory. Sita was not only a beautiful princess but also a totally devoted loving and affectionate wife.

Due to Ram's step mother "Kai kai" conspiracy Sita and Ram had to go to the Banbas (to live to unknown very far places) for 14 years. Within this 14 years period they faced many problems and they had done so miraculous things. This is a long and interesting story known as" RAMANAYA". This history happened around fifty thousand years.

HOLY (COLOURFUL) FESTIVAL- In March

People of all ages take part in this funny festival. People rub each other with different colors and they throw colorful water at known and sometimes unknown persons. Visitors from outside countries can feel odd due to unexpected behavior although they also can participate and enjoy without any hesitation. Some immature people started this activity one week ago with a plastic bag with water inside. Often children practice by throwing water at anybody. It is the day to forgive previous day enemies and to make new friends.

MATITHARTHA AUSI (Mother's day)- April

It is the day to show gratitude to mother, for giving birth and caring for her children. Son and daughters bring presents and delicious food and spend time living together.

BUDDHA JAYANTI - In May

May- Full moon day, this is also an auspicious day for those who are impressed by the Buddhist philosophy. This specific day is important due to three reasons. He was born, attained Enlighten and left his body in May full moon day. Buddha (Awakened one) was born in Nepal at 563 BC. His is also famous by the name of "LIGHT OF ASIA".

GURU PURNIMA- In June

"Guru" is a Sanskrit word, which simply meaning is (Destroyer of darkness). Nowadays this festival celebrates in many sectors. Those who teach any specific thing learner say Guru (Teacher). Actually this word is concerned with spirituality.

On this day disciples/students meet their beloved master with gifts to express their gratitude and to receive more blessing.

KRISHNA JANMASTIMI - In August

Krishna, another incarnation of Lord Bishnu of Hinduism, who played a vital role in "Mahabharata Battle '' which is mentioned in the Gita scripture is one of the holy books for Hindu's. Devotees celebrate his birthday splendidly in his remembrance.

TEEJ - September

This festival is a Hindu married women's day for her husband. They vow for the whole day for their partner's long age and his prosperity. Unmarried girls do this ritual for a good looking husband who must be fit from every aspect to their life. Women dressed in beautiful saris.

These above mentioned are major festivals. There are many other festivals also. Government offices remain closed in those days. Generally Saturday is a rest day in Nepal.
